7 Moments Issa Rae Had Us Fienin’ for the New Season of “Insecure”

Issa Rae had us when Misadventures of the Awkward Black Girl, her YouTube series, launched in 2011 and she became the “it” sister everyone wanted to connect with. Now with her HBO hit Insecure about to kick off its 3rd season on August 12, it’s safe to say we are still in her comedic clutches. Cuz we can’t wait! Even though the show took a little break, the award-winning creator and actress did not. She’s juggling multiple projects, including two in development for HBO (Sweet Life and Him or Her). But in a moment, it’s gonna be all about the complicated, crazy-funny lives of Issa Dee and her girl Molly.

Let us count the moments…

When her Covergirl spot made us think about the highs (and lows) of friendship.

“That was dope — embracing the humor,” Rae says. “My friends are funny as shit and they wear makeup. Those aren’t mutually exclusive things.” – Allure.com

When we learned that Lawrence isn’t coming back? But after her response, we get it.

Said Issa to upset viewers who launched a petition:  “We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on … Sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again and it’s okay. You gotta explore life without Lawrence.” – Vulture.com

When we saw the first official season 3 teaser of her character rapping at her mirror, bitch. (You know you’ve tried it.)

When she told Teen Vogue that she wanted to change the narrative for darker-skinned women in Hollywood.

“Dark-skinned women still portray a certain archetype and I want to change that,” she told Teen Vogue at Insecure Fest. “They’re either super strong, emotionless, robotic — or hyper-sexual, and you don’t get the in-between very much.”

When she got that Emmy nod. Yasssss.

How she found out: “I was working. I was on set filming a scene with Marsai Martin from black-ish and Will Packer came out and was like, ‘I need your attention, drop everything,’ and I was like ‘Oh sh*t, what did I do wrong?’”…I just couldn’t believe it. I was also embarrassed because he did it in front of all those people, but it was just a magical moment.” – TheGrio.com

Anytime we see cute and cool graphic tees.

Issa’s statement-making shirts play a supporting role on Insecure. And by far, they are the dopest t-shirts ever, thanks to stylist Ayanna James.

When she, with her 2M Insta-followers, takes a break from social media, leaving us wanting more.

“It’s just too much. It could just be a cesspool of negativity. What I do miss about it sometimes, is just the up-to-the-minute news, and then I’m just, “Why do I even need that?” I got back on shortly before we finished filming and just for promotional stuff, and then I just got back off today or yesterday, whatever time. I love to take breaks when I can just because it can just be a lot. I like to be with my own thoughts…It’s a thing where it’s helped me definitely build my career, but I just don’t want to only be that. When I say something, I want it to mean something. I just want to use it to express myself in a positive way and not be sucked into the negativity of it all.”
